An image input device includes: an image formation optical system; a micro lens array formed by a plurality of micro lenses arranged in two-dimensional way at a predetermined pitch in the vicinity of the focal plane of the image formation optical system; and a light reception array having a plurality of light reception units for each of the micro lenses and receiving a light flux passing through different emission pupil regions of the image formation optical system for each of the light reception units. The micro lens power and the interval between he micro lens array and the light reception array are determined so that the size of the cross section of the light flux forming an image concerning the micro lens of the light reception unit in a range of a predetermined distance from the micro lens array is not greater than the micro lens pitch.
