PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for recording/reproducing information, capable of suppressing a reduction in a seeking speed when a methadata partition is extended in an optical disk having the defined methadata partition. SOLUTION: The device for recording/reproducing information, having a function of writing/reading data in a recording medium having a data structure capable of including a main first management information group and a sub management information group in the recording medium, is provided with the function of checking which of the main first management information group and the sub second management information group has a smaller division degree of an area having management information written in the recording medium and holding it, and when information is read from the recording medium, the management information written in the management information group having a smaller division degree is used based on the held information.
