PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device being a belt nip fixing device, whose constitution is simple and which can control the tension of a belt in accordance with the kind of paper and can be miniaturized, and to provide an image forming apparatus in which the fixing device is mounted. SOLUTION: The fixing device is equipped with: a heating roller; a pressure roller pressed against the heating roller; a belt stretching and laying member arranged on an upstream side in a paper conveying direction with respect to the pressure roller; and the belt wound round the outer circumferences of the pressure roller and the belt stretching and laying member and moving while forming a fixing nip between the heating roller and the belt. Then, a tension roller is arranged to abut on the outside of the belt between the belt stretching and laying member and the pressure roller. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
