PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet material feeding device, a sheet material feeding method and an image recording device having simple structures and capable of stably and securely separating sheet materials one by one. SOLUTION: The sheet material feeding device 6 is provided with a suction part 7 abutting on and sucking a film 2 positioned uppermost in a sheet package 3; a pickup mechanism 8 moving the suction part 7 to an X direction (first direction) which is a direction separating the suction part 7 from the sheet package 3; a suction part slide mechanism (reciprocation mechanism) 10 for reciprocating the suction part 7 in a Y direction (second direction) which is a longitudinal direction of a cassette 5; a position sensor detecting the position of the suction part 7; a separation claw (abutment part) 12 on which the surface of the film 2 sucked on the suction part 7 by the pickup mechanism 8 abut during movement of the film 2; and a collision part moving the film 2 sucked on the suction part 7 by the suction part slide mechanism 10 and colliding with a rear end part of the film 2 with respect to the feeding direction.
