PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of an increase of the number of parts, enlargement and cost increase brought about due to the fact that detection of an opening and closing state of a printing head that constitutes a printing part, and detection of a state of a movable blade that constitutes a cutter are carried out conventionally by separate sensors. SOLUTION: The printer comprises a printing/cutting unit 3 which sequentially carries out each processing of printing and cutting to a paper let out from a rolled sheet. The printing part 20 is equipped with a platen 21 and the printing head 22 which is constituted to be approachable and separable to the platen and prints to the paper passed through between the platen and the printing head when the printing head approaches the platen. The cutter 30 is equipped with a fixed blade 31 and the movable blade 32 which cuts the paper in cooperation with the fixed blade in a process when reciprocated by a motor. One photo sensor S6 is set which can simultaneously detect both that the movable blade is present at an initial position where an interval enabling passing of the paper is held between the movable blade and the fixed blade, and that the printing head is present at a closure position where printing is possible.
