METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR REMOVING SHADING OF IMAGE

A method and a device for removing shading from an image are provided to offer an integral normalized gradient image not sensitive to lighting by analyzing a face image model, defining an intrinsic and extrinsic factor, and setting reasonable assumption, and avoid blur in an edge area of the image by using an anisotropic diffusion method. A smoothing part(200) smooths an input image by using a smoothening kernel. A gradient calculator(220) calculates gradient of the input image by using a gradient operator. A normalizer(240) normalizes the gradient-calculated images by using the smoothened image. An image integrator(260) integrates the normalized images.
