Airbag diverting element in particular for side airbag, made of same material as ceiling cover and with v-shaped cross section

When the side airbag is inflated in case of a crash it has to be prevented from an uncontrolled expansion. The airbag diverting element (1) is positioned between the inner surface of the metal roof and the interior ceiling cover. Material and sandwich structure are the same as used for the complete interior cover of the passenger cabin. The device (1) is of a longitudinal shape with an opening (3) in a concave segment (2) for a handle extending from the ceiling. The remaining part is designed with a v-shaped cross-section and has several grooves (13) and reinforcing ribs (12).
