Class 20 (2) A structural element having slots to enable it to be bolted to similar elements comprises an angle section steel bar having a wide flange 10, Fig. 1, and a narrow flange 11, a row of slots 16, 17 in the wide flange which are inclined alternately in opposite directions, a row of longitudinal slots 14, 15 in the wide flange on each side of the row of inclined slots and a row of longitudinal slots 12 in the narrower flange. A row of round holes 18 are disposed centrally between the slots 16, 17 and a row of holes 13 disposed centrally between the slots 12. Each longitudinal slot 14, 15 is shorter than the longitudinal distance between adjacent slots or than the transverse distance between the rows of slots 14, 15. The slots 15 are directly opposite the slots 12 and are staggered relative to the slots 14. The slots 16, 17 are inclined at an angle of approximately 64 degrees to the longitudinal axis of the bar. Figs. 2-9 (not shown) show two angle sections bolted together in various angular positions. A channel member may be formed by bolting together two angle sections with their wide flanges overlapping and narrow flanges parallel and facing each other, the overlap varying from a position in which the central holes 18 overlap to one in which the slots 15 overlap to form channel members of varying width.
