PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hanging/placement type vertical automatic warehouse capable of reducing investment sum when constructing a factory and reducing the running cost when running the factory by reducing an installation area of the automatic warehouse, and capable of immediately supplying goods in progress in response to a goods request from a processing device by directly accessing any cassette. SOLUTION: This hanging/placement type vertical automatic warehouse is structured of hanging/placement type cassettes 6 housed with work pieces, placement shelves 9 for housing the hanging/placement type cassettes 6 in the placed condition, hanger shelves 7 for housing the hanging/placement type cassettes 6 in the hanged condition, a stacker crane travelling in the horizontal direction along the placement shelves 9 and the hanger shelves 7, a hanging/placement type hand transferring part 4 moving on the stacker crane in the vertical direction, and hanging/placement type hands 15 and 15 for holding the hanging/placement type cassette 6. The hanging/placement type cassette 6 can be taken out and placed from over the placed shelf 9, while the hanging/placement type cassette 6 can be taken out and hanged from under the hanged shelf 7.
