PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cleaning agent composition for containers excellent in scale adhesion-suppressing performance, cleaning performance, storage stabilizing performance and corrosion-suppressing performance of aluminum when cleaning containers used for operation in production plants of various kinds of foods such as beverages and foods, and containers used for transporting beverages, foods, etc., in distribution and to provide a cleaning method using the composition. SOLUTION: The cleaning agent composition for container comprises (a) an alkali metal hydroxide, (b) an aliphatic carboxylic acid, (c) a sequestering agent, (d) a surfactant, (e) a polymer and (f) water.
