A latch needle for a weaving machine is provided to have sawslots including small facet or surfaces on the front and rear end surfaces thereof. An end of a latch(6) is adjacent to a latch support member(7) and protruded to the sawslot(11). The sawslot is provided to a sank(3) as a long slot and extended to a needle breast(13). The section of the sank is substantially a rectangular shape, a needle back(12) is a narrow and flat plane. The needle breast is an oppositely arranged surface, so that the latch is protruded. Both sides of the sawslot are defined by cheeks(14). The cheek is cut and the check behind the latch is exposed to an observer.
