An AV device for performing a data copy operation between external device and a data copy method thereof are provided to store data to be copied in an HDD(Hard Disk Drive) and transmit the stored data to the external device to prevent the performance of the AV device while the copy operation is performed. An interface unit(160) performs data communication with a plurality of external devices(200,300), and receives data to be copied. An HDD(140) temporarily stores the data received through the interface unit(160). If the storage of the data is completed in the HDD, a decoder unit(120) transmits the data to the certain external device through the interface unit(160).
