A support system for a portable device and a method therefor are provided to update items on a specific table, such as a user name, a user connection number, and a user identification number, thereby preventing illegal use of the portable device by an another person. A support system for a portable device comprises the followings: a peripheral control module(60); a communication module(70); an input controller(50); and a control module(10) which reads DRM(Digital Right Management) information when connection of a portable device(100) is detected by the peripheral control module(60), and performs on-line search for data file, which a user designates through the input controller(50), through the communication module(70) and a communication network on the basis of the read DRM information, and downloads the on-line searched data file to the portable device(100) via the peripheral control module(60).
