PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color image input/output apparatus which is free from fears for evil practice performed by combining such a transmission function with composite processing which transmits an original (for example, paper money, securities, etc.,) that is originally inhibited from being transmitted and prints the original by an another printer by deciding whether the prescribed pattern is included or not for the image after composition. SOLUTION: The color image input/output apparatus comprises a reading means for reading an original image, a storing means for storing the read image, a compositing means for compositing two images stored in the storing means, a transmitting means for transmitting an image, an image work processing means for performing work processing of the image and a characteristic detecting means for detecting characteristics in the image, detects an image composited by the compositing means by the characteristic detecting means before transmitting the image by a transmitting means and works the image by the image working means when a prescribed characteristic is detected.
