A display driving device and method are provided to reduce the size of a memory by storing image data in the memory after compressing and coding, decoding the data stored in the memory, and then outputting the decoded data to a display device. A display driving device(100) for driving a display device(150) displaying an image and having a memory(130) includes a coding unit(110) compressing, converting, and coding the image data to be displayed on the display device; a memory control unit(120) for storing the coded data in the memory and reading the data stored in the memory; the memory storing the coded data; and a decoding unit(140) decoding the data read from the memory by the memory control unit into image data to be displayed on the display device.
