PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a thermal lens microscope cannot have detected small proteins of 5 nanometers or less and can have detected only 1% or less of the total amount of sample flowing through a microchannel. SOLUTION: An A. C. voltage for heating only proteins is impressed in the microchannel provided with electrodes in the periphery of the channel to excite hot water mass in the periphery of protein samples. The hot water mass having a dielectric constant lower than that of peripheral water is converged by a dielectrophoretic force to detect the hot water mass having a refractive index lower than that of the peripheral water by a thermal lens microscope.
