The locking coupling for the cradle of a ships lift has a locking assembly (12) fixed to a rotary bolt (9) and arranged above it. The locking assembly has two housing halves (16,17) with threads (27,28) on their outer faces. The housing halves have fastenings (25) which are spring loaded into the retaining position. The housings support a piston rod (13), which has fluid passages (29,30) for the piston (14) inside the housing.
