PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for the optical resolution of tertiary carboxylic acids, having been demanded in the fields including organic synthesis, analytical chemistry, pharmaceuticals, agriculture and functional materials and other fields. SOLUTION: The optical resolution can be conducted easily by using the diastereomer of an amide modification of a racemic tertiary carboxylic acid and an optically active phenylalaninol as the diastereomer has a great separatory capacity. The amide modification subjected to optical resolution becomes the corresponding oxazoline modification once, therefore enabling its hydrolysis, thus leading to producing the objective optically pure tertiary carboxylic acid.
