A home network system for providing a communication function between a video phone and a portable phone and a communication method thereof are provided to enable a visitor to make a call with a resident during resident's absence by using the video phone installed in an apartment house such as an apartment and a villa, and enable the resident to confirm identity of the visitor, and then open/close a door of a common entrance or each household, thereby providing security and convenience to the resident and the visitor. A home network system for providing a communication function between a video phone and a portable phone comprises the followings: a video phone(100,150); a home network server(200) which performs a phone call by controlling connection with a specific receiving party's video phone, a general telephone, and a portable phone through a virtual telephone office(400) supporting an Internet phone service, and performs remote control through power lines of various information home appliances according to a request of a resident of a remote place; the virtual telephone office(400) which provides a function for perform connection with the specific receiving party's video phone, the general telephone, and the portable phone by using an Internet phone number assigned to the video phone(100,150); and the portable phone(600). |
