Disclosed is a piezo actuator, e.g. for actuating a mechanical component. Said piezo actuator comprises a multilayer structure of piezo layers (2) and can be impinged upon by a certain voltage in a piezoelectrically active zone (A) via inner electrodes (3, 4) that are disposed between the layers. Inactive zones (B, C) are provided in the layer structure of the piezo actuator (1). At least the top part or the bottom part, which represent inactive zones (B, C) without inner electrodes, are formed from a material whose permittivity (epsilon' 33) is smaller than the permittivity (epsilon33) of the active zone (A).
