An apparatus for detecting a remaining amount of ribbon is provided to previously prevent a printing operation from stopping before finishing printing operation by enabling a user to know ribbon remaining amount information in advance and perform the printing operation. In an apparatus for detecting a remaining amount of ribbon, a ribbon film(100) displays remaining amount information(D) by at least one bar-type mark classified according to a size. A sensor unit detects the remaining amount information of the ribbon film. A control unit calculates the number of printable sheets from the information detected from by the sensor unit.
