Disclosed herein are piperidine-2,6-diones that are heterocyclically substituted in position 3 and are represented by formula (I), wherein the variables shown in formula (I) are as defined in the specification; a process for their production and their use in medicaments. These compounds are suitable as immunomodulators for the treatment and/or prophylaxis of inflammatory and auto-immune diseases, in addition to haematologic-oncologic diseases.
