PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering device which ensures a collapse stroke at the time of a secondary collision, and at the same time, which can separate the connection between a steering shaft and a universal joint, and which shows an extremely small sliding resistance while a column moves by collapsing at the time of the secondary collision. SOLUTION: At the time of a primary collision, when an intermediate outer shaft 84 moves to the car body rear side by a distance L2, a washer 88 comes into contact with the car body front side end surface 262 of a front plate 26 and stops. Therefore, the intermediate outer shaft 84 is limited in a manner not to move too excessively to the car body rear side. Since the inner diametrical section of the washer 88 has reached the outer diametrical section 832 of the intermediate inner shaft 83 having a small diameter, the washer 88 does not obstruct the collapse movement of the intermediate inner shaft 83 at the time of the secondary collision.
