A method of manufacturing an animal feed supplement comprises heating a fluid composition such as liquid molasses, or a similar carbohydrate containing fluid in a first vessel 30 while simultaneously applying a vacuum to the vessel. The fluid composition is then allowed to cool and harden. The vacuum may be applied by a vacuum pump 46 while a pressure release system 31, and agitation means 36, 38 may also be provided. Before hardening is allowed the fluid composition may be blended with additives such as vitamins, minerals, proteins, flavourings, colourants and preservatives. During heating at least a portion of the water content of the fluid composition will be vaporised and removed from the vessel before being condensed in a condenser 42. Apparatus for the use in such a method is also claimed. |
