A near-field light emitting device and a data recording/reproducing apparatus are provided to minimize the distance between a magnetic head and the center of brightness of the near-field light. An emission member is placed at a base(110a) for mapping a magnetic head and a polygon type pole. A front end of a core(122a) of an optical waveguide is combined at the surface of the emission member. The other end of the optical waveguide is combined with a unit for coupling the optical waveguide with the laser beam through lens coupling, end injection and cladding and the like. The emission member includes a surface propagating unit(131a), a deflection unit(132a) and an etching mask material(133a). The emission member also includes two slant sidewalls(134a).
