The present invention relates to complexes formed from molecular encapsulati on agents such as cyclodextrin, and cyclopropene and its derivatives such as methylcyclopropene, which are capable of inhibiting the ethylene response in plants. More specifically this invention relates to compositions of cyclopropenes and molecular encapsulation agents containing additives to improve the release of the cyclopropene when the composition is contacted with water.
