A filter for display apparatus and a display apparatus having the same are provided to enhance transmissivity and brightness by condensing visible rays from each discharge cell. A filter for display apparatus includes a transparent substrate(210), a filter base(270), and an external light shielding layer(230). The filter base is attached on one side of a panel assembly and includes one or more functional layers for performing one or more functions selected from a group consisting of an anti-reflecting function, a near infrared shielding function, and an electromagnetic wave shielding function. The external light shielding layer is formed on one region of the filter base. The external light shielding layer includes a transparent resin material(234) and a number of wedge-shaped black stripes arranged in parallel on one side of the transparent resin material.
