A vehicle wheel attachment system for facilitating mechanical coupling of a vehicle wheel to a vehicle includes a hub assembly having a piston which exerts force against a compression fitting. The hub assembly is passed through a wheel an d attached to a rotor. In one embodiment, the hub assembly is mechanically torqued to clamp the wheel between the hub assembly and the rotor. Pressure in the system is maintained by a spring biasing means, and in particular, a spring cone washer. After removal of the torquing fixture, pressure in the system is maintained by use of a spring co ne washer that acts against a compression plate held in place by a split ring assembly. In alternative embodiments, the wheel and hub mandrel shapes can be modified in order to correspond to one another, and thus assist in locking the wheel to the hub. As a result , a rapid, non- hydraulic method for attaching a vehicle wheel to a vehicle hub assembly is provided.
