PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical microresonator for imparting desired polarization for the purpose of bringing any polarization states into degeneracy. SOLUTION: The optical microresonator is formed as a microcylinder 42 and a resonant waveguide 48 on the microcylinder and has a plurality of spaced resonant elements such as circumferential ridges 41 for optically coupling light from an optical source waveguide 50 onto the microcylinder. The resonant elements have a spacing, height and angle to impart a desired polarization and bring the polarization states into degeneracy. Coatings 40a, 41a can be formed over the resonant waveguide. The coatings are operative with the resonant waveguide, and are of a refractive index to bring any polarization states into degeneracy. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
