PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic centering device capable of easily matching the center line of an article with the basic position, regardless of size of articles, and stopping it. SOLUTION: This automatic centering device for conveying an article having a front end and a rear end in the conveying direction at a fixed speed and for matching the center line of the front end and the rear end with the basic position, which is set on the way in the conveying direction, for positioning is provided with a conveying device for conveying the article in the conveying direction, a detecting sensor for detecting the front end or the rear end of the article to output a detecting signal in a process for conveying the article with the conveying device, a movable stopper arranged at the basic position for positioning the front end of the article, and a moving means for moving the movable stopper in the conveying direction at half the article conveying speed. When the detecting sensor detects the rear end of the article, the moving means stops movement of the movable stopper in the conveying direction at the same time. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
