PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera system in which processings are appropriately shared between a camera head and a camera body in processing image data acquired by photographing. SOLUTION: In the camera system provided with an optical unit and the camera body, the optical unit is provided with an optical system for forming an image of subject light; a photographic section for photographing the subject light having the image formed in the optical system in a photographic mode to be selected from a plurality of photographic modes to obtain an analog image signal indicating the subject light; and a data converting section for converting the image signal into digital image data having a data format corresponding to the photographic mode. The camera body is provided with a connecting section, to which the optical unit is detachably attached; an image processing section for acquiring the image data from the optical unit to apply image processing, corresponding to the data format of the image data; and a mode switching section instructing the photographing section for switching the photographic mode and causing the photographic section for photographing in the photographic mode switched.
