A method for optimizing a file operation in a smart phone is provided to largely reduce start/termination delay of an application platform in a smart phone OS(Operating System) and reduce the delay of the concentrated file operations by using a file cache. If a file open request is received, it is checked whether the file is cached or not(S102). In case that the file is not cached, the file is opened(S116). In the case that the file is not read-only by checking an open mode of the file, handle of the opened file is inserted into a cached file list(S120). In the case that the file open request is received again, the handle of the cached file is returned from the cached file list(S124).
