A filter for a display apparatus and a display apparatus having the same are provided to increase transmissivity by using wedge-type black stripes for collecting a visible ray generated in each discharge cell. A cover(150) covers an upper portion of a case(110). A driving circuit substrate(120) is arranged in the case. A panel assembly(130) includes discharge cells where a gas discharge is generated. A PDP(Plasma Display Panel) filter(140) has a conductive layer on a transparent substrate. The conductive layer is grounded to the case through the cover. The PDP filter includes a filter base and an outer light shielding layer. The transparent substrate, an anti-reflection layer, and an electromagnetic shielding layer are laminated to form the filter base. The outer light shielding layer is arranged on the filter base. The outer light shielding layer includes a support body, a matrix formed on a surface of the support body, and wedge-type black stripes for blocking a light from the outside introduced into the panel assembly.
