A thinned illumination device. The illumination device has a bottom section (20); a housing (12) formed on the opposite side of the bottom section and having an open end; a flat discharge tube (14) placed in the housing (12); a circuit unit (16) provided in the housing (12), in the longitudinal direction of the housing (12), adjacent to the flat discharge tube (14); a globe (13) for closing the open end of the housing (12) and translucent; a pressing member (15) attached to a through-hole (52) provided in an inner bottom surface (20a) of the housing (12) and supporting, in cooperation with the through-hole (52), one end of the flat discharge tube (14); and an engagement section (51) provided at the inner bottom surface (20a) of the housing (12) and engaging with the other end, opposite the one end, of the flat discharge tube (14). |
