The method involves defining at least one investigation segment in the volume and riving a positioning device so that the segment lies in an optimal measurement volume of the magnetic resonance spectrometer. It involves detecting physiological processes (12) in the patient's body with a detector for which an imaging state and a wait state occur cyclically, whereby the positioning device is moved (11) during the at least one wait state so that the investigation segment lies in the optimal measurement volume.
