A vehicle security apparatus and a method thereof are provided to compare a user's input secret number with a secret number stored in a system memory and to lock the operation of an electronic system within a vehicle. A mode selection member(107) performs a mode change function in order to use a volume control key(100) as a secret number input key. The mode selection member also has a selection function of a security mode. The volume control key receives the secret number inputted by a user. A memory(101) stores one or more secret numbers set by the user. A micro-controller(102) compares the secret number stored in the memory with the inputted secret number and then controls the operation of the electronic system within a vehicle according to the comparison result.
