<p>A process for producing low-molecular-weight allylamine polymers having a weight-average molecular weight of 250 to 4,000 or addition salts thereof by distilling a solution of a low-molecular-weight allylamine polymer to distill off unreacted monoallylamine, subjecting the residue to electrodialysis and, if necessary, further treatin g the same with an acid; low-molecular-weight allylamine polymers having an ignition residue of 5 % by weight or below and a weight-average molecular weight of 250 to 4,000 or addition salts of the low-molecular-weight allylamine polymers having the above-described properties; a water-proofing agent for ink, containing the polymer or addition salt; an ink composition containing a colorant and the water-proofi ng agent. This process can efficiently provide low-molecular-weight allylamine polymers or addition salts thereof having improved colorability a nd a low inorganic acid content. The ink composition containing the above allylamine polymer or addition salt thereof as the wate r- proofing agent has a high water proofness and excellent storability and is particularly useful for ink jet recording.</p> |
