X-ray apparatus monitoring method, compares distance between patient and x-ray source with preset minimum distance and outputs signal accordingly

The method involves measuring the distance between an x-ray source (1) and a surface of a patient (6) facing the x-ray source. The measured distance is compared with a predetermined minimum distance, and a signal is output if the measured distance is smaller than the minimum distance. The distance is preferably measured by a laser measuring device (4,7). The signal is a warning signal and/or a switch-off signal for switching off a generator which supplies the x-ray source. An independent claim is included for an x-ray apparatus.
