<p>A system (10) includes a particle counter (50) having a data output, an Ethernet cable (31) adapted for connecting the data output of the particle counter (50) to a monitoring station (13), and a power over Ethernet (POE) type power supply (11) structured for providing power to the particle counter (50) via the Ethernet cable (31). Apparatus includes a particle counter (50) having an air movement device (25) powered solely by a POE supply (11). Apparatus may include a particle counter (50) having an air mover (25), power management subsystem (22, 23, 24), and Ethernet data output, the power management subsystem (22, 23, 24) for monitoring power consumption of the air mover (25) and maintaining the power consumption below a predetermined amount, and an electrical supply (21) for powering the particle counter (50) via an Ethernet medium. A method includes powering a particle counter (50) over Ethernet medium via a POE power supply, detecting microscopic particles, and producing digital data based on the detecting, and transmitting the data over the Ethernet medium.</p> |
