A fuel cell constructed from a pair of separators sandwiching a membrane electrode assembly and having formed in it a gas channel that is provided with substantially rectilinear channels and bent channels each communicating an end of one of the rectilinear channels to an end of another of the rectilinear channels and is formed so as to communicate from a gas inlet to an outlet. A groove for holding inside at least a part of water produced in the gas channel is formed substantially continuously along the channel, in the inner wall face of the groove of the separators constituting the rectilinear channel. Water drops produced in the gas channel come in contact with the water held in the water holding groove to suppress the growth of the water drops and prevent the gas channel from being closed, and as a result, flooding resistance is enhanced.
