Refrigeration-based gas dryer

A refrigerated dryer for gas e.g. compressed air, is controlled to optimize coolant cost and to prevent freeze-up from over-cooling, by having the control temperature sensor mounted in a conductive device (14) which thermally integrates the temperatures at both the cooling fluid inlet nozzle (11) and the gas outlet nozzle(12) to provide a control variable. Device (2,14) is soldered copper tube.
