Communication system and method for flow control by port blocking

In a communication system having a first (W1) and a second node (W2) where data is passed between said nodes (W1,W2) via a link, a method of controlling data flow between the links comprising said second node (W2) sending a request to said first node (W1) to block its proximal port so as to prevent said first node (W1) sending data to said node (W2). This prevents the first node (W1) from sending further data to the second node (W2) in the case that the traffic cannot continue beyond this point.
