PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position sensing system and a method for sensing the position capable of specifying the position of a doubtful person. SOLUTION: The position sensing system has an RFID position measuring device 50, a security camera 60 and a data processor 70. The RFID position measuring device 50 has a plurality of active tags 30 transmitting electromagnetic waves and a tag reader 40 receiving electromagnetic waves transmitted from a plurality of the active tags 30. The RFID position measuring device 50 acquires RFID position-measuring data D1 related to the positions of a plurality of the active tags 30 existing in an object area 5 on the basis of each electromagnetic wave received by the tag reader 40 from a plurality of the active tags 30. The security camera 60 acquires camera-position measuring data D2 related to the places of an authenticator 10 and the doubtful person 20 existing in the object area 5. The data processor 70 specifies the place of the doubtful person 20 in the object area 5 by comparing the RFID position-measuring data D1 and the camera-position measuring data D2.
