PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a batch type rotary kiln capable of performing uniform heating gas treatment on powder heated object by an atmospheric gas, and having superior productivity. SOLUTION: This batch type rotary kiln 10 comprises a retort 13 storing the heated object and rotating on an axis, and a heating furnace 7 for heating an outside portion of the retort, a cover body 23 is detachably mounted on at least one end of the retort, the atmospheric gas G is supplied from one end side of the retort to achieve prescribed gas atmosphere in the retort, and the atmospheric gas is discharged from one end side or the other end side to treat the heated object by the heating gas. An atmospheric gas supply means 33 provided with a plurality of gas jetting portions extending into the retort along the axis of the retort, and an oscillating means for integrally and vertically oscillating the heating furnace and the retort, are mounted at an atmospheric gas supply side.
