PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wiping device capable of wiping only a side face of a liquid jet head at an arbitrary timing. SOLUTION: This wiping device comprises an opening face wiper 41 capable of wiping a nozzle opening face 28 of a recording head 21, a side face wiper 42 which is provided independently to a cap for sealing the nozzle opening face 28 and is capable of wiping the side face 29 intersecting with the nozzle opening face 28, and a drive motor 43 for displacing each of the wipers 41, 42 between its standby position and the individual wiping positions.
