An electrical or optical connector comprises a number of independent body segments 24a - 24d which are secured together to form a single assembly. The segments may have interlocking structures (38, 40, Fig 7) to hold them together, or they may be held together by a housing 20 having a retaining ring 28. The segments may have alignment means such as ribs 25 which align with grooves 27 in the housing, which may also have alignment means 23 to align with its counterpart. The body segments may form a circle, or be square (Fig 5) or rectangular (Fig 6). Forming the body in segments allows one segment to be replaced if damaged more easily than replacing the whole connector. |
