A coupler of a steel reinforcing bar is provided to construct easily by modifying connection structure of the steel reinforcing bar, and to increase productivity by firmly connecting the steel reinforcing bars corresponding to permissible limit. A coupler for connecting a couple of steel reinforcing bars(5) includes two or more covers(11) having plural ribs formed in an inner periphery along an axis of the steel reinforcing bar, arranged in parallel with a joint of the steel reinforcing bar and protruded radially and surrounding outer peripheries of the steel reinforcing bars, a pipe type sleeve(21) containing the cover, and a wedge(31) formed between the cover and the sleeve to contact the rib to the outer periphery of the steel reinforcing bar and to assemble the cover with the sleeve. A side of the wedge is tapered. The coupler has a slot(23) formed in the outer periphery of the sleeve, a screw hole(33) formed in the outer periphery of the wedge and moved along the slot, and a bolt(35) combined with the screw hole to move the wedge between the sleeve and the cover.
