Attractant compositions and method for attracting biting insects

The attractiveness of insects, particularly mosquitoes, to carbon dioxide-containing systems or traps can be significantly and synergistically increased if one of the following components is employed with carbon dioxide, namely: (a) NO₂ or a material producing NO₂, (b) NO₂ or a material producing NO₂, and NH₃ or ammonium salts of acids, (c) NO₂ or a material producing NO₂, and acetone, and (d) NO₂ or a material producing NO₂, NH₃ or ammonium salts of acids, and acetone.
