PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a folding type escape ladder of which the pair of right and left stringers folded and stored in the interior of a cross rail when not in use maintain the stability of the cross rail, and the stringers are surely folded inwardly when they are stored. SOLUTION: The freely foldable stringers 2, which connect both ends of the two cross rails 1 adjacent to each other up and down, are guided to the interior of the cross rail through a slit 1a projected in the vicinity of the end of the cross rail. Then the stringers are connected by the cross rail and connection pin 4, thus the stringers are folded and stored in the interior of the cross rail when not in use. When a escape ladder is used, the tip of a spring arranged to the connection pin between the stringer and the cross rail is brought into contact with the tip of the extended end, and the lower member 2b of the stringer receives a force which pushes back the lower member 2b a little bit inwardly.
