The invention relates to a device and a corresponding method for treating surfaces (F) of metallic components (M), especially for treating the tracks of the cylinder ports (Z) of combustion engine blocks (M), by means of a laser beam (L). Said device comprises a deflecting lens system (14) for deflecting the laser beam from a direction extending in the longitudinal direction of the surface that is to be processed into a direction that deviates therefrom and is oriented towards the surface that is to be processed. In order to minimize, with simple means, the risk of the lens getting dirty prematurely in such a device or such a method, a translucent deflection unit (13, 113) is placed upstream of the deflecting lens system, said deflection unit (13, 113) being provided with penetration areas for the laser beam that are plane-parallel to each other and extend at an angle to the direction in which the laser beam hits the deflection unit.
